Working in, and with, the public is not easy, and it’s definitely not for everyone. You see a lot. And I mean, A LOT. You see all kinds of people. I’ve come to the conclusion that people… aren’t the best.
People are rude.
People are snarky.
People are entitled.
People are impatient.
People are racist.
People are nosy.
People are judgmental.
People are oblivious.
People are frivolous.
People are boisterous.
People are inconsiderate.
People are extra af.
People are cringy.
People have no decency.
People have no social skills.
People have no common sense.
People severely lack parenting skills.
People have no regard for others.
People smell funky.
People have a LOT of gall.
People are foul.
People are literally disgusting.
People are ballsy.
People are overconfident.
People overrrr share.
People are weird. ((And not in the good way))
People, man.
People are honestly just kinda dumb.

But aside from allll that, I do actually love my job. I love working with the public. I may not be a “people person” per se. I mean.. I don’t want to go out after work and do more peopling. I do enough of that in the eight-ish hours I’m at work. But.. I love hearing their stories. I love building rapport. I love relating to people on one level or another. I love when customers come back in and remember me and/or something I mentioned. I love learning. I love figuring things out. I love finding solutions to problems. I’m a fixer. It makes me feel accomplished. So many people don’t take pride in what they do anymore. I’m just not like that. I want to do the best in every aspect of my life. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I’m old and that’s just my mindset. No one wants to work anymore. No one cares about the work they do. My job might not be extravagant or brag-worthy, and you don’t need a degree or certificates or training to do it, but it’s still my job. It’s my responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction. That’s what I signed up for. Customer service.

Most of my coworkers quite literally hate their job, and I can’t seem to understand why they’ve chosen to do it for 10+ years, when they’re miserable every day. They complain about nearly every customer. They’re rude to their customers.. especially if they don’t speak English. They play favorites. They’re fake. Granted, I have my “fake” customer service personality, too, but this is a very different kind of fake. They talk bad about other coworkers, too. It’s not enjoyable. I tend to stick to myself and mind my own business. I talk to a few people, but other than that, I’m focused on me. I don’t eat lunch in the break room; I go out to my vehicle. I’m there to do my job and make money, not friends. That sounds awful, but it’s the truth. I don’t have time for childish behavior. I’m almost 40. I gotta focus on me and my future.

Point is, we literally signed up for this. We applied for, interviewed, and accepted a customer service job. You knew what you were getting yourself into. There are so many other jobs out there. If you hate what you do, find something else. As for me, I’m going to continue to smile and greet my customers and resolve their issues. Because.. ya know.. it’s my job… the one that I asked for.
Oh.. also.. side note.. the amount of Crocs I see is amazing 🤣
People smell funky 😀 that was my personal fave. People are people I feel you left that one out. I know what you mean though.
